Deep Listening: Fleet Foxes

Lately I have been seeking out fresh inspiration. Recently my ears have fallen onto Fleet Foxes. I tend towards anxiety and this band is very soothing when I am feeling overwhelmed.

“In dirth or in excess, both the slave and the empress will return to the dirt, I guess, naked as they came.” Montezuma

I have listened to everything I can find by them. I hear that they were broken up but now are making new music again. This made me so happy because I thought maybe I had found them too late.

“If I know only one thing it’s that everything that I see of the world outside is so inconceivable often I barely can speak.” Helplessness Blues

Their style is hard to describe. At times is seems very folk/rock and other times choral and country. I like to listen to them when I am trying to write or focus on something. I listen to them at night when sleep doesn’t want to come and in the morning when I want a gentle wake up.

“Penniless and tired with your hair grown long. I was looking at you there and your face looked wrong. Memory is a fickle siren’s song. I didn’t understand.” He Doesn’t Know Why

This was my favorite song to listen to over the holiday season.

If you like Fleet Foxes and know of other artists like them I would love to hear about those bands.

Happy Listening,

D
